First-edition outdoor wellness + community day at the Jardim Botânico — movement, yoga, and open-air activities in one of the greenest spots on the island. Easy, all-ages Saturday morning. Good for Scot and Ana, and a gentle one the whole family can do together.
Floripa’s geek + anime festival: cosplay competition and parade with cash prizes, K-pop presentations, geek marketplace, artist alley, games, and stage activities. Free entry for under 12 (Lia goes free with ID); half-price with 1 kg of non-perishable food. Right here on the island — the big Lia weekend. See her section for details.
School-holiday activity zone at Beiramar Shopping — interactive sports and games for kids. An easy indoor rainy-winter-day option during férias, and a fallback if the weather turns. Runs through Jul 26.
One of the island’s classic hikes — a climb over Morro da Coroa down to the near-untouched Lagoinha do Leste beach. Guided option departs from Pântano do Sul; book any day that works. Winter is cool and clear, good hiking weather.
Scenic lakeside trail to the Costa da Lagoa fishing village with a waterfall along the way — you can hike one way and take the boat back across Lagoa da Conceição. Family-friendly on the easier stretch.
The largest gastronomy festival in southern Brazil — special menus and tasting events across the city’s restaurants through August. Right up Scot’s alley. Daily programming isn’t published yet; full details in next week’s digest.
Two classic island hikes to pick from this month — Lagoinha do Leste (beach + climb) and Costa da Lagoa (waterfall + boat back). Both in the Floripa section with links.

Running Races
Jul 12 (Sun) — 7 AM start (6 AM concentration) — Beira-Mar Continental
Sunday-morning road race along the Beira-Mar Continental — 5K, 10K, or a 3K walk. Register via TicketSports (regulation PDF). Luisa could run this one with you — a nice mother-daughter race while she’s home.
New Floripa races drop here through the month; a Penha/SC event (3–42 km) is showing around Jul 31–Aug 2 (dates not yet locked). The big one on the horizon: Maratona Internacional de Floripa, Aug 29 (21K/42K with 5K/10K support) — maratonadefloripa.com.br.
Otto is a respected name in contemporary MPB / Brazilian music — a real show, not background music, at Bar DeRaiz in Lagoa. The pick of the month for Ana.
A Broadway-tribute musical evening listed for Jul 12 — venue not yet confirmed on the tourism calendar. Worth a look for Ana’s theater interest; confirm the venue before planning around it.
Florianópolis’s only art house cinema, in Santo Antônio de Lisboa. Programming rotates weekly — a confirmed auteur-cinema slate runs Jul 17–23. Check the site for showtimes.
Heads up: it’s winter, so the walking-distance beach-club scene is quiet — P12’s next ticketed events are in September, and no July dates surfaced for Padozi / Milk / Safari. The Jurerê EDM season picks back up around December. Nothing to plan around this month.
K-pop presentations, a cosplay competition and parade with cash prizes, a geek marketplace, artist alley, and games — right here on the island at Sesc Cacupé. Free entry for under 12 (bring ID), or half-price with 1 kg of food. Weekend, no school — this is the one to plan around. Both days, 12–7:30 PM.
The live-action Moana (with Dwayne Johnson as Maui) opens in Brazilian cinemas this week — actually landing here before the US. Classificação Livre, winter break, no school. Pre-sale is open on Ingresso.com. A perfect férias family movie outing.

Shrek 5 — July release
Shrek 5 is slated for a July release (exact Brazil date not locked yet). Another winter-break option once dates firm up. PAW Patrol: Dino Adventure is tracking for mid-August.

K-pop reality check
No K-pop shows in Floripa this window
Straight answer: there’s no K-pop concert in Florianópolis over the next month, and Lia’s favorites already played Brazil earlier this year (Katseye + Sabrina Carpenter at Lollapalooza in March; Anime Friends SP wrapped Jul 5). The K-pop fix this month is the Dragon Anime Fest stage. Watch k4us.com.br for late-year SP dates worth a fly-to.
The local Japanese-Brazilian association runs occasional festivals and cultural showcases — worth following for Lia’s Japanese-culture interest between the bigger events.

For Luisa — home in Floripa
Luisa’s in Florianópolis for the winter, so this month it’s the island scene, not Chapel Hill. Metal is having a good month here — two real shows below.
California thrash legends Hirax hit Célula Showcase in João Paulo as part of their July Brazil run — tomorrow night. Fast, loud, and exactly Luisa’s wheelhouse. Tickets via 101tickets.com.br. Her metal night, no travel required.
Brazilian power/prog-metal institution Angra has a “Rebirth” anniversary show on the books at John Bull in Lagoa da Conceição. The exact date wasn’t nailed down in my sources — confirm on the John Bull agenda before planning. If it lands while she’s here, it’s a great one.
Metal vocalist Fabio Lione is listed for a Florianópolis show around the start of August — venue and exact date not yet confirmed. On the radar if she’s still in town.
John Bull (Lagoa) is the island’s go-to rock/live-music room; Under Floripa’s agenda tracks the indie/alt scene and updates weekly. Between the metal shows, these two cover the good 20-something nights out.
Floripa’s card + board-game store runs weekly TCG tournaments (MTG, Pokémon, etc.). No single dated event surfaced for this window, so the move is to message them for this week’s calendar. Cross-check dated MTG tournaments on LigaMagic filtered to Florianópolis.
The one dated fitness event in the window — Sunday-morning 5K/10K on the Beira-Mar. A good excuse for a Luisa + Ana race together. Details in Ana’s section. Beyond that, the Maratona de Floripa (Aug 29) is the next big one.
